You enabled 2FA on your applications and you receive an SMS with a code before logging in so you are safe right? Well, maybe. Did you know your SIM can be spoofed or stolen, and third parties could get your secure code and still breach your account? Lock your mobile number and SIM to prevent this scenario. Here's how:

Wireless Account Lock is a free security feature offered by AT&T that helps protect customers' wireless accounts from unauthorized changes. Verizon's SIM Protection is the same thing. When the feature is turned on, it prevents certain sensitive actions—such as device upgrades, SIM or eSIM swaps, IMEI changes, phone number transfers, and billing updates—from being made on the account. By blocking these types of transactions, Wireless Account Lock reduces the risk of fraud and particularly 2FA breach, and protects personal information from being compromised.

The lock can be enabled or disabled through the myAT&T app by users who have primary or secondary access to the wireless account. Verizon users can find this on your MyVerizon website dash. Once activated, it applies to all devices and lines on the account, including smartphones, tablets, wearables, hotspots, and laptops. While the lock is active, customers can still perform some basic account activities such as making payments, adjusting plans or add-ons, or suspending service. The carriers also send notifications—such as an email to the account holder and text messages to active numbers—whenever the Wireless Account Lock is turned on or off, providing an additional layer of transparency and security.
