Hybridge purchases several thousand computers per year for our clients. We have never seen computer pricing so high and availability changing so rapidly. Firms planning to purchase computers should prepare for higher prices and unusually unpredictable lead times.
AI is driving high global demand for semiconductors, memory, and storage, while trade disruptions, energy costs, limited manufacturing capacity, and ongoing supply-chain pressures continue to affect the market. Industry analysts expect these pressures to keep computer costs elevated and constrain the supply of systems for at least the next 24 months.
Availability can now change within days—or even hours. A computer quoted last week may be unavailable today, and its replacement may have different specifications or a higher price. If you anticipate hiring employees, replacing aging equipment, or beginning a technology project, ordering early gives you the best chance to secure suitable systems in time.
Business computing requirements are also increasing. While 16 GB of memory was once adequate for many office users, we now recommend at least 32 GB—effectively doubling the practical baseline. AI, videoconferencing, security software, and modern browsers all consume significant computing resources. Purchasing an undersized computer may save money initially but can result in slower performance, employee frustration, and an earlier replacement.
Our recommendation is to plan hardware needs several months ahead and avoid waiting until a computer fails. We can review your equipment lifecycle, identify systems nearing replacement, establish appropriate specs, and help you budget around changing market conditions. Advance planning cannot eliminate market volatility, but it can reduce rushed purchases, unexpected costs, and operational disruption.
