A worldwide semiconductor shortage coupled with general supply chain dysfunction is bringing automotive, network, computer, and consumer electronic companies to their knees with no end to the shortage in sight.
Whether you have asked Hybridge to order a new laptop, or you’ve tried ordering one yourself, you have probably noticed the increase in delivery time (and price) quoted. Many car manufacturers have announced a reduced production schedule and availability of various consumer goods is decreasing. Repeated factory and dock closures, stockpiling practices from certain players, transportation challenges arising from the Suez Canal blockage and ongoing container shortage, and an increase in demand for goods worldwide ensure that semiconductors will continue to be in high demand and short supply.
What does this mean to you? It means you need to plan ahead. We have seen our lead time for a standard Lenovo laptop increase to a minimum of two weeks (where previously we could acquire a laptop on your behalf in one to two days), and any customized laptops are taking 3 months plus for delivery. Simultaneously, prices have increased up to 50% compared to last year.
Semiconductor shortages are not affecting laptops alone. Networking equipment, including switches, access points, and firewalls, have a 3-month lead time currently. We are working closely with Cisco to ensure prompt delivery to our customers but the inventory is simply not there. Because you are a Hybridge customer and if you have a project that needs to start sooner than three months, you might be in luck. We have a limited amount of loaner equipment that we can set up for your team’s use while your order arrives. This applies to certain networking equipment only.
